INTRODUCTION

PECOBA, ie Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh Old Boys Association, is an Alumni Association of Graduates of Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh and was founded in Delhi in May 1967 by Amarjit Singh Kohli of 1964 Mech passout. Its founder President is A. Arunkumar of 1962 Elect. It has Chapters in several towns of India & abroad. PECOBA has organized more than 40 Functions in Delhi & one in Karnal in the last 42 years. It published its first Directory of PEC alumni in 1980 listing details of 1353 alumni.

Although a large number of girls are now studying in PEC, PECOBA has retained its old name PECOBA, where “B” stands for boys. It may look gender- biased in favour of males at first look, but we have clung to it steadfastly on the same basis as Universities all over the world are retaining their hundreds years old degrees like B.A., B. Sc, B.E. etc where B stands for Bachelor. The females have accepted it and never asked for a change to SA, SSc etc where S would stand for a spinster denoting female.
